“DiverCity” Social-Cultural, Human Rights Defender NGO celebrating #IDAHOBIT2022 within the framework of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia on May 17 and on the occasion of the #PrideMonth, published a series of podcasts combined in #5PrideStories.

The main aim of #IDAHOBIT is to raise the visibility of LGBTQ+ people.

DCNGO has joined the global celebration since its establishment and in 2021, we published a video which is available here.

The five series of #5PrideStories was created with the support of ECOM (The Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity), with the financial support of the Robert Carr civil society Networks Fund (CSF). It is dedicated to the fight against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia #IDAHOBIT2022.

You are listening to the “The Voice of Diversity” media which is introducing to you the 1st episode of the #5PrideStories podcast chain. It hosts Artak Adam who is an eco-activist, environmentalist and is the current president of ‘DiverCity” NGO.

The conversation with Adam begins with the local and global issues raised by them. Those problems are bothering them and to solve the issues they are developing an activist movement.

They state. “We live in a society where there are many problems, from domestic violence to the deterioration of nature. The latter is not only a local problem but also a global one. We live in a reality where nature is destroyed and damaged to a point from where we cannot bring it back to the former condition, but we can prevent further damage. I am a person who is interested in nature protection, on the other hand, I am the bearer of the vegan ideology, which itself is about the rights of animals. Naturally, I cannot be negligent to these issues and I have been involved in several so-called “green” conservation movements for several years now. These movements are aimed not only at nature protection, but also at animal rights, or environmental protection at the community level, such as Amulsar, etc.”

Since communication with nature is very close to me, that is, I value the balance between a person and nature, I try to maintain it, even on a personal level. Lately, I have often been trying to take part in environmental activities. The issue is the current need for nature conservation and it is urgent and essential as we are already witnessing the consequences of nature degradation.

Talking about all this, Adam also discusses their involvement in activism as an LGBTQ+ representative stating that they often face a number of problems due to their sexual orientation and gender identity. On the other hand, he adds the following, “Despite all this, we must continue to actively fight for the creation of our opportunities and breaking stereotypes’ ‘.

They also talk about vegetarianism and veganism, the importance of separating the waste and garbage, recycling and a number of other vital actions that can significantly change and improve our lifestyle, the quality of life both at the community and state level.

In the conversation, they pay particular importance to the claim that LGBTQ+ people are always more acknowledgeable and they are at the forefront of any struggle.

They note, “-It’s actually not a stereotype that LGBTQ+ people are more acknowledgeable, it’s a reality. Since LGBTQ+ people, being the most vulnerable and targeted group in the society, acquire more information on various issues, they need to study any issue or problem more than others to prevent stereotypic attitude to them -discrimination, violence, stigma, which are manifested differently. LGBTQ+ people are more empathetic, especially towards animals”.

Adam examines the patriarchal order and compares it to the attitude of people towards animals.

They are sure that if people start to sort waste, recycling and treat nature sparingly, there will be a healthier environment. On the other hand, they advise planting trees to escape the deterioration of nature and respect others’ identities, accepting that no one is superior to the other.
